DESCRIPTION: Distillation during the rainy season results in a thin pinkish oil whereas distillation is early winter gives a reddish oil.
AROMATIC SUMMARY: A middle note with a strong aroma, has a characteristic sweet and minty scent similar to Sweet Birch.
BLENDS WITH: Ylang-ylang, Peppermint, Marjoram, Lavender, Birch Sweet and Vanilla.
BENEFITS AND USES: * A little goes a long way, so use sparingly *It is rich in Methyl Salicylate which is well known for it’s ability to manage pain and inflammation, great for a warming soothing massage after exercise. Has a refreshing aroma that’s uplifting and stimulating that increases awareness in the sensory system as a whole.
FACTS OF INTEREST: Menthyl salicylate is the principal constituent of this plant. Wintergreen and Sweet Birch oil are nearly identical in chemical composition and aroma; similarly, both were used in traditional folk remedies by the aboriginal peoples of North America. Wintergreen essential oil is derived from the leaves of a creeping shrub found in coniferous areas.
Cautions: This oil has strong warming properties and can be damaging to all skin types if not diluted properly. Dilute before using. For external use only. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, and sensitive areas.
NOTE: Wintergreen contains highly concentrated levels of Methyl Salicylate which is toxic if ingested and can be fatal in some cases
